Hotel Notes
Are you aware that the Hawthorne Hotel is very   Pet Friendly?  We have rooms that are designated just for you and your furry friends. Don’t leave your loved one’s behind—bring them with you next time.  We have treats for them upon arrival, and a Doggy Room Service Menu that is ‘Veterinarian approved’.  On a side note, in June of 2010 the Hawthorne Hotel hosted the wedding of Cricket (Bride) and Black Magic (Groom) in our Grand Ballroom, two Schipperke dogs who fell in love.  How cute is that?!!!  Contact Reservations for more details!

This Day in History
On this day in 1926, Harry Houdini, the most celebrated magician and escape artist of the 20th century, dies of peritonitis in a Detroit hospital. Twelve days before, Houdini had been talking to a group of students after a lecture in Montreal when he commented on the strength of his stomach muscles and their ability to withstand hard blows. Suddenly, one of the students punched Houdini twice in the stomach. The magician hadn’t had time to prepare, and the blows ruptured his appendix.

This Day in History
Nearly four decades after he became the first American to orbit the Earth, Senator John Hershel Glenn, Jr., is launched into space again as a payload specialist aboard the space shuttle Discovery. At 77 years of age, Glenn was the oldest human ever to travel in space. During the nine-day mission, he served as part of a NASA study on health problems associated with aging.
