Belgian Consulate to open at the Hawthorne Hotel

The Hawthorne Hotel turned even more international last week, as the hotel is now home of the Consulate of Belgium for New England. During the installation reception, which took place in the newly renovated Nat's restaurant, General Manager Patrick Cornelissen was officially installed as the Honorary Consul for Belgium.
Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll, and State Representative Paul Tucker gave the opening remarks, while former Ambassador and Consul General of Belgium Marc Calcoen officially handed over the Consular Crest and Installation letter.
As an Honorary Consul, Cornelissen will assist with enhancing economic, social and cultural ties between both countries, yet will also help to bring an even more international flair to Salem, as it is to our knowledge the only consulate on Boston's North Shore. When you stop by the hotel on your next visit, make sure to say hello!
