Environmental Art: Creative With Saplings

From May 7 to May 22, Hawthorne guests have something new to look forward to, as right across from the hotel the PEM's first environmental art installation is being created.

How it begins...the first saplings are placed in the ground

From 8am to noon and 1 to 5pm daily, Patrick Dougherty will be building up his artwork, which is made entirely out of saplings. Dougherty has created over 250 Stickworks throughout North America, Europe and Asia and he could not have picked a better spot for his latest addition. In these photos you can see the first stages of how it all comes together and, in case you are wondering: no glue, ropes or zip ties used here!

We will keep you posted on the progress; however, you may want to stop by and see this for yourself, as this work in progress is fascinating to observe! And while you're here, stop by our Tavern or Nat's for a refreshing drink or meal.

As always, I look forward to seeing you at the Hawthorne!
