Santa Arrives Again -- At The Historic Hawthorne Hotel

The annual arrival of Santa in Salem, via the roof of the Hawthorne Hotel is a tradition as old as the hotel itself.  This unusual event got its start when the hotel was built in 1925.  Some people in the town were worried that the hotel was too tall, so to demonstrate that the Salem Fire Department could  handle anything that might happen at the hotel, the City of Salem's Fire Department and the Hotel staged this event showing that their ladder truck could reach any room in the hotel, including the roof.

It was such a popular event, it took place every year since then, as far as we can tell.  I do know for sure that it has taken place for the past 20 years!

I hope you enjoy seeing this arrival from the perspective of the roof of the Hawthorne Hotel.

With many thanks to the Salem Fire Department, not only for this event, but more importantly for taking care of the City of Salem 365 days a year, 24-hours a day!

And special thanks to Kayleigh M for taking these photos, and to Brynn Zaniboni for accompanying her up on to the roof.

I hope to see you here.
