What’s Happening in Salem this week
A beloved annual tradition, Santa Claus will arrive at the top of the Hawthorne Hotel at 18 Washington Square promptly at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 – with assistance from the Salem Fire Department, of course.
Come a little early for festive music by Arbella Drum & Bugle Corps and hot cocoa courtesy of 62 Restaurant & Wine Bar. Santa’s arrival will be followed by a short stop at the Salem Common gazebo to light the Salem Common Neighborhood Association’s holiday tree and sing a few carols with the North Shore Children’s Theatre.
The parade will then continue to Museum Place Mall for pictures with Santa by Salem’s Vintage Photography, as well as face painting and a coloring contest thanks to Witch Tees.

VIP of the Day
The Hawthorne Hotel would like to welcome their VIP of the day Mary Jane Verdier!

Flags of the Day

This Day in History
On this day in 1933, the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is ratified, repealing the 18th Amendment and bringing an end to the era of national prohibition of alcohol in America. At 5:32 p.m. EST, Utah became the 36th state to ratify the amendment, achieving the requisite three-fourths majority of states' approval. Pennsylvania and Ohio had ratified it earlier in the day.

I hope to see you here!
