The Marble Faun Books and Gifts

Just across from the Hawthorne on Essex Street you will find The Marble Faun Books and Gifts. Named, of course, for Nathaniel Hawthorne's romantic novel, The Marble Faun offers an eclectic assortment of lovely gifts (for you and for your friends!).

Daughter and Mother team Jessica and Anne DeStefano wanted their shop, opened in June 2013, to be anchored in the literary with a Victorian feel. They were very successful. You'll find new and antique books along the walls, steampunk-inspired items next to Downton Abbey cookbooks, candles, candies, and so much more. It's easy to lose half your day enjoying the little shop and everything they have found to offer.

For Jessica, a graduate of Salem State who is at work on her own Hawthorne-inspired novel, the store reflects her own personality -- warm, fun, and smart! She carefully chooses the majority of the items herself and proudly displays jewelry crafted by her mother next to the register.

Check out these photographs showing a few of the great items they carry. (As always, you may click images to enlarge them.)

Many thanks to my assistant, Kayleigh Merritt, for taking these photographs.
