How Do I Say This?

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will know that I write it every day, and have for nearly 10 years.  I am nearing 5,000 posts, which is pretty amazing by any blog standards I think.  I was an "early-adopter" of this (and other) technology, and when I found blogging I knew I had arrived at something that fit "me" perfectly.

I have often told people who want to understand more about social media that Blogging is like a magazine article, filled with lots of color photos.  FaceBook is a lot like a newspaper.  Smaller, more quickly read articles with just a single photo are what show up in a FB feed.  I think Twitter is more like a radio announcement that you read instead of listen to.  It shows up, and then is quickly swallowed by the latest "Tweet" to come along in your stream.

All of this is given as background for those of you who have not heard this from me before, and preparatory to what I am about to say.

Because this blog and our FaceBook page are so much a part of "me" I have chosen this medium to announce my departure from the Hawthorne Hotel early in 2015.  This is a decision that I have wrestled with for about 18 months, and is due entirely to my family situation.

I am returning to my roots on the West Coast after nearly 16 years in Salem, Massachusetts, so that I can be near to my family once again.  I actually took this position here in Salem for that exact reason -- to be near my family, but 18 months ago that family changed direction, and moved back West.  In the past 15 plus years I have discovered even more family, and they are all in the West, which makes the pull in that direction even stronger.

The plan is for me to leave the Hawthorne Hotel around mid-April of 2015, so there will be plenty more blog posts from me.  I am hopeful that whoever follows me in this position (and I get to help to determine who that will be) will keep this blog going -- perhaps they won't want to do it daily, but hopefully they will do it often enough to keep all our fair blog-readers and FaceBook friends interested, informed and engaged with this delightful hotel call the Hawthorne.

In the meantime, I hope that I get a chance to say "so long" to many of you in person.  And so, as usual, I will sign off by saying . . .

I hope to see you here.

  1. You will be missed in Salem, but I do hope you will continue your blogging experience and keep up up to date on what's going on at the West Coast!

  2. Your departure will leave a large whole in Salem. The west coast doesn't know it yet, but this will benefit them big time!

  3. Juli;

    You have been a big help in getting our business out there for all your blog readers and friends to see. Thank you so much for helping us get started and I know others feel the same. Best of luck in the future.
