Tour the Babson Boulders in Dogtown

Trails and Sails is one of the very best things (on a laundry list of really excellent things) that there are to do in Essex County.  This is two-weekend event that takes place on the last two weekends in September all over our wonderfully diverse, historic, beautiful county, and is sponsored by the Essex National Heritage Area.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to be a "test subject" for Tom Dexter who will be leading the tour of the Babson Boulders on September 20.  While on the test walk, I took a bunch of photos, and here they are:

Tom Dexter, local volunteer, leading the tour.

Another friend of Tom's, Clifford, came along and played the violin for us during the entire walk (except when Tom was speaking of course.)

Along the trail.

Here is a link to another blog that has a lot of information on it about the Babson Boulders:  Babson Boulders in Dogtown/Gloucester, MA

Here is the listing about the hike/event which is taken from the Trails and Sails website:

Tour Of The Babson Boulders In Dogtown, Gloucester

Come see the famous Babson Boulders with inspirational sayings carved by Cape Ann stonecutters during the Depression. Hear some of the history of the Boulders, Roger Babson and of Dogtown. Participants should be prepared to walk on rough trails for approximately 2-3 miles (about 2 hours.)

September 20, 2014, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Please note that this walk is not recommended for dogs on the day of Trails and Sails, per the website listing.

Here is a link to the full events listing on the Essex National Heritage Area website, giving all of the Trails and Sails events:

I hope you will take advantage of this great roster of FREE events and get out and explore Essex County during September.
