What’s Happening in Salem this week
The House of Seven Gables will be welcoming William 
Martin, the New York Times-bestselling author of historical novels including Back Bay (1979), Cape Cod (1991), and The 
Lincoln Letter (2012) on Wednesday, May 21st.
The recipient of the 2005 New England Book 
Award, William Martin has been praised by critics and audiences for more than 
35 years.  While here, Mr. Martin will 
deliver a presentation detailing Abraham Lincoln and the world he lived in.  A book signing will follow the lecture. The lecture begins at 6:00 p.m at the House of Seven Gables.

In Washington, D.C., humanitarians Clara Barton and Adolphus Solomons found the American National Red Cross in 1881, an organization established to provide humanitarian aid to victims of war and natural disasters in congruence with the international Red Cross.
