Our Top Six Travel Tips

Here is a short list of things you should know when staying at our hotel, or most any hotel.

Allergies:  If you have any allergies, let the hotel know when you make your reservation.  Some hotels take pets.  Like so many hotels these days, the Hawthorne Hotel proudly welcomes pets, and we do our best to keep them on certain floors.  Some hotels still allow smoking in some of their rooms, especially in hotels in other countries such as Europe, so be sure to ask if that is an issue for you.

Arrival Time:  If you know your arrival time, let the hotel know in advance.  That can help in how the room assignments are made, making things smoother for a lot of reasons.  If you do not know your arrival time, do not fret -- it is just a helpful thing if you do, and you communicate it.

Directions:  Do not rely on your GPS as the only way to get to us.  Check out our directions on our website for the customized directions to our hotel.  Those lovely men and women whose voices we listen to our our GPS' don't always know the best way to get to our hotel.  We do so we know what is under construction, what streets just crawl along, and what the most scenic route might be.  If you cannot get to our website, to get our directions, we encourage you to give us a call to ask us to send you good directions.  We want you to have a good trip, and getting here is part of that process.

Payment:   When you reserve your room be sure to give a credit card and not a debit card.  And when you arrive, do the same thing, even if you want to pay with the debit card or cash on check-out.  There are some tricky differences that are mandated by the companies that issue debit cards that don't make them good for things like hotels, restaurants and car rentals, so get a "regular" credit card and use that when you are traveling.  Upon check-out you can easily pay with a debit card or cash instead of the credit card if that is your preference.

Problems.  Issues.  Complaints:  Call them what you will, hotels want your stay to be right, so if something is not right, please let us know right away.  You do us a great service when you bring things to our attention while we can at least try to make them right.  Please, don't wait until you are on your way out the door to mention something in passing that we could have corrected right away.  This goes the same for our restaurants.  Really, any restaurant worth their salt wants to hear from you right away if something is not quite to your liking.

Special Requests:   We want your stay to be special.  If you ask us in advance for whatever it is that will make it be just that, it is highly likely that we are going to be able to help you.  Please feel free to make requests.

We trust these thoughts are helpful to you.  If you have any advice for other travelers, we would love for you to share it in the comments section below.

I hope to see you here.

Juli
