Just recently I posted about
a Hawthorne Hotel glass we purchased on eBay that we suspect dates back to the
1960s. In the post, I mentioned we had found what we thought were Hawthorne Hotel shot glasses on Etsy and
were waiting for them to arrive. Well, they’re here! And they’re a bit bigger
than shot glasses. These two identical glasses are wider and taller than we
expected, making them more like your standard rocks glass.
Front and Back
Like the sherry or port glass
that I posted about previously, these glasses depict nautical
signal flags and their corresponding meanings (with a little leeway
taken with the exact verbiage). The yellow and black checkered flag means "Stop vessel immediately,"
often due to the signaling vessels need to communicate. The white flag with the
red X means, "In need of assistance (not in distress)."
Like the other glass, these two will now be placed in our memorabilia cabinet that can be found to the left of the entrance to Tavern on the Green. I hope to see you here! Juli
