It Must Be 5 PM Somewhere!

If you are a connoisseur of classic cocktails and the accouterments that make them special, here is a post for you.  We have posted before about some of the great photographs and memorabilia that come to us through Nelson Dionne, a local collector of historical items.

A while back, Nelson brought me this stir stick, reading "Hawthorne Motor Hotel," a brief name change that occurred around 1970 --

A closer look at this special Hawthorne Hotel swizzle stick

A little searching around the web led us to find that these swizzle sticks came in a variety of colors, including blue, green, and yellow.

Nelson also pointed me toward this special Hawthorne Hotel glass that was being sold on Ebay, and we bought it that same day.

Thank you to David, one of our bartenders, for his assistance in finding the perfect drink to photograph these unique glasses!

We are uncertain as to when these items may have been sold, but expect the glass to be from the 1960s. The flag is an international nautical signal flag which means, as the glass states, "Man Overboard."

In researching this glass, we found a set of Hawthorne Hotel shot glasses on Etsy which we have now purchased and are waiting for. These shot glasses, clearly made at the same time as the glass above, also display nautical signal flags and their corresponding meanings--it must have been a series!

I hope you enjoyed seeing these items as much as we enjoyed receiving them. If anyone has any information that may help us in dating these items, we would love to hear from you.

They will now be placed in our memorabilia cabinet located to the left of the entrance to The Tavern on the Green.

As always, I hope to see you here!
