What’s Happening in Salem this week
Thursday, January 16th from 6pm-9pm at the Peabody Essex Museum

Celebrate the café culture of the French Impressionists. Listen to French singer-songwriter Marine Futin, practice French on a French-language tour of "Impressionists on the Water" check out an absinthe demonstration and sample brasserie-inspired tastings. Also hear Adam Gopnik, a staff writer for The New Yorker and author of the essay collection "Paris to the Moon", talk about his years living in Paris. Members and Salem residents (with ID) free, nonmembers $10 at the door. Cash Bar.

This Day in History
The 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, prohibiting the "manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors for beverage purposes," is ratified January 16, 1919 and becomes the law of the land.
