Giant Pumpkin Arriving at the Hawthorne Hotel

Yesterday was a big day at the Hawthorne Hotel because it was the day that our Giant Pumpkin arrived.  This one was SO BIG that we had to develop yet another strategy for getting it in to the building.

Here are some photos and videos of the process.  The videos are all shot "Vine" style so each one is only six seconds long, but I think when you see all three of them you will get a quick overview of this process.

Chef Ken O'Keefe surveying "his" purchase, since he is the one who located this pumpkin for us.

Trying to figure out what to do next, Chef Ken, with Jay Gilliss, Building Chief.

George Hoomis (left) is a friend of grower Armand Michaud.  They are both from Ipswich MA and grow these giants in their backyards.

This was a very tough growing season!

Removing the pumpkin from "their" trailer.

Barry Eliuk pushes while Jay Gilliss pulls, and other members of our team move the furniture even more out of the way.
George and Armand were happy to see how we dressed up the pumpkin.
Now we can get our "Guess the Weight" of our Giant Pumpkin Contest underway.  This will start on Friday October 11, and will end on Halloween OR BEFORE, depending on how well the pumpkin survives.  This is always a difficult thing to predict, so it will end at our discretion.  The best advice we can give is "guess early".

I hope to see you here.
