Biking Around Salem

Just across Essex Street from the Hawthorne Hotel there is a rack of bicycles that are available for anyone to use for free.  The bikes are provided by the City of Salem via a Green Communities grant, and the Hawthorne Hotel volunteers its time in providing a check-out system and the staff to handle that for the City.

Here you see Brynn, of our Front Desk Team, handling the paperwork for a local resident who is a regular user of this system.

Getting ready to take off for a ride.
If you want to check out a bike you simply need to be 18 years old or older, have a proper ID and credit card (that is just used as security so you will be sure to return the bike) and do a little bit of paperwork for the use of the bicycle, at our front desk.

Since this is something we do on a volunteer basis, please understand that our customers who pay to keep us in business have to have priority for our attention, so we hope you will be patient.

We hope to see you here.

Juli
