Happy 90th Birthday, Georgie

Sometimes we have the best coincidences happen here at the historic Hawthorne Hotel, and they can really brighten up our days.  One such happenstance occurred on Friday when Karen O'Kane, our Director of Catering, sat down to handle the final details for a 90th birthday party for Georgie Sawyer.

Karen had been working with Georgie's daughter, Leslie Sawyer, but when they all came in on Friday Karen realized that she had worked with Georgie many, many years prior.  She was thrilled to reconnect with Georgie, and to connect the dots.

Georgie Sawyer was a longtime professor of music at Salem State, and at one point she took on the role of coordinating the "Explorers Club" annual luncheons, which used to be held here at the Hotel.  The Explorers group outgrew our facilities, and had to take their luncheon elsewhere, and Karen lost touch with Georgie, until last week.

Everyone was happy to get back in touch, and Karen thought it would be fun to recognize this relationship with some photos and this blog post, "just because."  I was happy to oblige.

Left to right, back:  Joe Sierra and his wife, Leslie Sawyer.  Seated:  Georgie Sawyer, Leslie's mother.

I hope you enjoy seeing a little bit of the "behind the scenes" things that can happen when a business deals with so many people, and when the staff of that business stays in their positions for such long periods of time.

Happy Birthday, Georgie!  You look 'mahvelous'!!  We hope your party will be terrific.

Thanks so much for the best wishes and making Georgie's birthday celebration even more special. Everything was lovely and the staff so easy to work with and accommodating.

What a beautiful woman to behold! I can recall when the Explorers got started, and I was too young to be among them, but thought one day I would join. But now I live 180 miles away. Happy Birthday, Georgie! Many more!
