Changing of the "Guard"

After decades of service to the Hawthorne Hotel, Peter Barter, our florist for as long as anyone can remember, has decided to retire and sell his shop.  We are so sorry to see this happen, but happy for him to be able to relax and enjoy things at a different pace.

With any change comes anxiety, and for us that anxiety was "who will do our lobby flowers?"  We reached out to our alternate florist, "Flowers by Darlene" and found that Darlene was up to the challenge.

Yesterday was the official changeover day, and right on schedule Darlene Gallion, the owner of Flowers by Darlene, showed up with two new arrangements for our lobby.

We can see now that the anxious moments we had were unfounded, because the flowers are just lovely, and are just exactly like the very traditional arrangements we know our owner prefers for the lobby.

Here are some photos I snapped of Darlene and her arrangements:

I hope you enjoy keeping up with what is going on, somewhat "behind the scenes" here at the Hawthorne Hotel.  And of course, I hope to see you here.

  1. These floral centerpieces are lovely! Best wishes for continued success to Darlene. Sad to know Peter Barter will no longer be "floral-izing" our beautiful hotel (it's not my hotel, it just feels like it's my second home) but I'm sure he's ready for a well-deserved rest, and likewise, Darlene with a new chapter in her own career. The hotel is always perfect, beautifully appointed and warmly welcoming.

  2. Can't wait to see the Autumn flowers she puts out when we come in October! We look forward to the Giant Pumpkin too!
