CinemaSalem Perfect for this Weekend

Here is the newsletter from CinemaSalem.  With rain in so much of the forecast, I thought this would be the perfect time for you to go to my favorite movie theater ever.  Don't forget that the Tavern on the Green here in the Hawthorne Hotel is perfect for a pre- or post-movie meal or adult beverage.

I hope to see you here (or there)!

This week marks the beginning of our busiest season, with movies all day, every day, and only two sets of showtimes: Friday and Saturday; and Sunday-Thursday. The theaters are cool, the popcorn is fresh, and summer is finally here!

And here are this week's awesome showtimes!

Playing Friday: The Heat (R); Monsters University (G); Man of Steel (PG13); The Silence (NR); The Rocky Horror Picture Show (R); The Spirit of Salem 3D; This Perfect Place; and The True 1692 in 3D!.

As mentioned, The Heat arrives at CinemaSalem on Friday carrying with it an incredible buzz, based mostly on director Paul Feig's pedigree (Unaccompanied Minors, I am David, and Bridesmaids) and the immense popularity of Melissa McCarhy and Sandra Bullock. Although the "buddy cop" premise is familiar, the clichés are freshened by the apparently hilarious banter between the two leads. Filmed in Boston, this looks like a hit.

The Heat will screen on Friday and Saturday at (12:00), (2:30), (5:00), 7:30 and 10:00; and Sunday-Thursday at (12:00), (2:30), (5:00) and 7:30.

Opening in the Screening Room is a remarkable modern film noir, The Silence, which has critics amazed. Seattle Times: "A story of obsession, of the permanence of loss, of how deeds of the past haunt us, closing over our heads like water. It leaves you shivering, yet thrilled; waiting anxiously for this talented new filmmaker's next work." East Bay Express: "Stunning performances and cinematography." The St. Paul Pioneer Press asks a provocative question: "How might criminals who get away with murder behave, the movie asks? Just like everyone else."

The Silence will screen on Friday and Saturday at (11:50 AM), (3:30), 7:15 and 9:50; and Sunday-Thursday at (11:50 AM), (3:30) and 7:15.

Monsters University won this week's Box Office Championship, and continues to amaze the critics. an Francisco Chronicle: "Animation, monsters and the Socratic method? (Director) Scanlon and the crew make it work." MU will screen Friday and Saturday at (11:15 AM), (1:30), (4:00), 6:45 and 9:30; and Sunday through Thursday at (11:15 AM), (1:30), (4:00) and 6:45.

Man of Steel is also wowing the critics, including those who labor for the Toronto Star: "The casting is impeccable, beginning with Cavill as an uncommonly brooding but refreshingly deep Superman." MOS will screen on Friday and Saturday at (11:40 AM), (3:00), 6:30 and 9:40; and Sunday through Thursday at (11:40 AM), (3:00) and 6:30.

Until The History of Halloween opens October 3, you can enjoy one of our excellent home-brewed films. The Spirit of Salem will play Friday- Thursday at 11:00 am.

This Perfect Place: A Natural History of the Massachusetts North Shore, featuring Kristina Lindborg, will screen Friday-Thursday at noon, and The True 1692 will screen Friday-Thursday at 2:00 and 6:30.

And we're celebrating Pride Week in Salem with a special presentation of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Saturday evening (technically Sunday morning) at midnight.

Thanks for supporting CinemaSalem!

Sandra and Melissa aren't super thrilled about the idea of you not going to their movie!
