Salem residents are so lucky to have PEM in our fair city. We always get free admission. How terrific!! But believe me, even when you need to pay admission, PEM is so worthwhile!!!
Here are some things that are going on this coming week:
Nick Cave Sound Suits Video
PEM/PM: Free Form with Nick Cave
Soundsuits Come to Life!
Thursday, April 18 | 6:30-9:30 pm
Members and Salem residents (with ID) free
Artist Nick Cave joins us for a night of dance, costuming and music on Thursday, April 18, for our fabulous after-hours party. Cave's Soundsuits -- otherworldly, wearable sculptures -- will come to life in an exclusive dance "invasion" in the Atrium. A DJ spins the night away and Boston-based multimedia artist and musician Joshua Pablo Rosenstock demonstrates his wearable electronic sound instrument. The museum is open late to explore the galleries, including the immersive, kaleidoscopic exhibition, FreePort [No. 006]: Nick Cave.
In this PEM-produced video, Nick Cave talks about the transformation that occurs when performing in his Soundsuits.
The entire museum is now open late, from 10 am to 9:30 pm, the third Thursday of every month. Museum admission is always free to Salem residents (with ID) and children 16 and under.
Midnight to the Boom: Painting in India after Independence
Last chance! Exhibition closes April 21! Don't miss what Cate McQuaid of The Boston Globe describes as a ... "lush, bustling exhibit ... steeped in Indian traditions and vernacular as a steamy cup of chai. It showcases the museum's collection of 20th-century Indian art, the deepest of any in the United States."
