This Day in History:
On this day in 1876, Alexander Graham Bell patented his amazing new device - the telephone. Bell had ties to Salem, and in May, 1877 gave a public demonstration of his telephone in the building that is now the nearby restaurant 43 Church. Bell established communication with his assistant, Mr. Watson, in Boston, who sang “Auld Lang Syne” to the Salem audience while the audience joined in the chorus.

I hope to see you here!
