Happy Anniversary!

One of the things about having a milestone event like a wedding reception in the Hawthorne Hotel is that you know you can come back here whenever you wish to celebrate an anniversary.  Try that at a function hall or even a country club -- it just isn't going to happen.

Last week I met a lovely couple as I walked through the Tavern, and I commented that they were enjoying my two favorite desserts on the menu -- the Mocha Cream Brulee and the Gingerbread Ice Cream Sandwich with Local Honey.  They agreed, but went on to tell me that it was their 10th wedding anniversary, and that they had had their wedding reception right here at the Hawthorne Hotel.

I asked them if I could blog about it, and they agreed, and I am so happy they did, because the stories they shared with me were lovely.

It seems that yesterday their in-laws came by and picked up their two children, Brendan and Maeve, and brought them to the Hawthorne Hotel and took their photo outside with a sign saying "Happy Anniversary", and then printed out the photo, put it in a frame, and gave it to the couple for their anniversary gift today.  How sweet!

I also learned that at their wedding reception we served our special tomato-cheddar soup, and that they have been searching for it other places every since then.  I explained that January is National Soup Month, and that in recognition of that fact we had solicited people's favorite soups on our FaceBook page, and I asked if they were friends with us on FaceBook.  They were not, but it doesn't sound like it will be very long until that status is changed.

In any case, I went to the kitchen to find out how we could slip that particular soup into the rotation of special soups for January and it turned out that other FaceBook fans had already requested it, and it will be the soup of the day on Tuesday, January 15.

I hope you can make it back that soon!
