Giant Pumpkin Arrives at the Hawthorne Hotel

Every year it seems to get a little bit easier to get a giant pumpkin into the lobby of the Hawthorne Hotel.  In years past it was a project that could literally take an hour or more.  This year it was all over in about 10 minutes, and that includes the time we spent posing for photos.

Here is the sequence for you to enjoy:

Getting it off the trailer was a piece of cake this time.

Mary Woodcock watches over "her" pumpkin's transport into the Hawthorne Hotel

Backing it into it's spot of honor in the lobby is like backing up a semi-truck

Hawthorne Hotel team members get to post "first" with our giant pumpkin, since they helped get it in to the Hawthorne Hotel.
Left to right:  Santos Chavez Torres; Jay Gilliss: Alaina Ferriero; Barry Eliuk; Claire Kallelis; Katie Powers; Ken O'Keefe and Bienvenido Espinoza

Our first guests to pose with the giant pumpkin were from Salina, Kansas and they were thrilled for the opportunity. When they said Salina, Kansas, and I said I had been there, they were surprised and a bit dubious, I think, until I said I had been to the famous place for sliders, The Cozy Inn.  Then they knew for sure I had, especially when I said "no cheese" because you cannot get cheese on your "Cozies."
Be sure to check back later when we have our Halloween lobby centerpiece all dressed up and really ready for company.

  1. Looks like it was quite an adventure getting that giant pumpkin into the hotel! I have been following this blog for a few weeks and I am very appreciative that events at the hotel as well as in the community are given the spotlight. I can not wait to come see the lobby once it's all decked out for Halloween!
