Rainy Day Movies

On rainy days there is little better entertainment than to sit in a darkened theater to enjoy a good movie.  When you add to that experience the best of movie munchies, like choices of both air-popped virtually fat-free popcorn, or the normal stuff laced with real butter, you have the CinemaSalem experience.

The best news is how proximate it is to the Hawthorne Hotel -- only one block away!

Here is their current newsletter so you can be in the know about what to see.

School gets out next Thursday, June 21, in Salem, and that's when we'll expand our schedule, showing films all day, every day! We have a great lineup this week, so let's get right to the schedule.

Now Playing: Rock of Ages (PG13); Elles (NC17); Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted 3D (PG): Snow White and the Huntsman (PG13); This Perfect Place: A Natural History of the Massachusetts North Shore (NR); and The True 1692 3D!

New this week is the eagerly-awaited Rock of Ages, arena-rocking into town on raves like these. Flick Filosopher: "I'm not even sure director Adam Shankman realizes how extraordinary his film is on a certain level." What Culture: "The performers are clearly having a blast, and their enjoyment is infectious." Ultra Culture: "As the tagline says, Rock of Ages is nothin' but a good time."

Rock of Ages will screen on Friday at (4:40), 7:20 and 10:00; Saturday at (11:30 AM), (2:00), (4:40), 7:20 and 10:00; Sunday at (11:30 AM), (2:00), (4:40) and 7:20; Monday-Wednesday at (4:40) and 7:20; and Thursday at (11:30 AM), (2:00), (4:40) and 7:20.

New in the Screening Room this week is Elles, a provocative film which is polarizing film critics. Spirituality and Practice: "An emotionally rich and nuanced performance by Juliette Binoche as a woman journalist experiencing a sexual crisis." Boston Herald: " Yes, I know, it's the obvious semi-feminist take on the oldest profession in the world, and yes, men are pigs." NPR: "The sex scenes are attention-getting, but Elles is most remarkable as a naturalistic portrait of a woman." Los Angeles Times: "As an essay on women's roles in society and cross-generational female desire, the film provides many questions with no easy answers."

Elles will screen on Friday at (4:45), 7:30 and 9:40; Saturday at (12:10), (2:50), (4:45), 7:30 and 9:40; Sunday at (12:10), (2:50), (4:45) and 7:30; Monday-Wednesday at (4:45) and 7:30; and Thursday at (12:10), (2:50), (4:45) and 7:30;

The True 1692, our historically-accurate 3D film about the Salem Witch Trials, will screen Friday at 3:00 and 6:30; Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 and 6:30; Monday-Wednesday at 3:00 and 6:30; and Thursday at 2:00 and 6:30.
