Why Do I Love CinemaSalem?

Let me count the ways. . .

Terrific films
Documentary Film Fest is the BEST!
Validated parking in the parking garage -- very handy in inclement weather
Friendly staff
Generous to the community
Great popcorn with real butter
Excellent tea selection

Those are my reasons.  What are yours?

Now, here is their newsletter, which is always great to read:

Do you know that the Salem Film Fest is emerging as one of America's best all-documentary film festivals? Do you know that more than half the films at this year's fest were created by women filmmakers? Do you know that the executive editor of American Cinematographer magazine is coming to Salem to lead a panel discussion and give an inaugural Best Cinematography Award?

You can find out the answers to each of those rhetorical questions by visiting to see descriptions and view trailers of many of the films, and there's a fest schedule PDF you can download and print out.

[This is the film being sponsored by the Hawthorne Hotel.  It will play in the main screen on Tuesday March 6 at 6:30 pm.  I hope to see you there! -- Juli]

With the fest a little more than two weeks away, now's the time to be choosing the films you don't want to miss. There are 33 films screening at the festival, and you can enjoy all of them at a 67% discount by purchasing an All-Access Pass at the website; why pay $10 for admission when you can get in for $3!

In the meantime, we've got a great lineup of films this week, which happens to be February school vacation week, so we're open all day, every day. Our slate of films from last week did so well, we're holding them over.

So here's the scoop!

Now Playing: Journey 2: The Mysterious Island 3D (PG); The Iron Lady (PG13); 2012 Oscar Shorts: Animated, Live Action, and Documentary (NR); The Descendants (R); and The True 1692 3D!
Might as well get right to the showtimes. One of our two 3D films, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island will screen on Friday at (4:15), 6:45 and 9:00; Saturday at (11:30 AM), (1:45), (4:15), 6:45 and 9:00; and Sunday-Thursday at (11:30 AM), (1:45), (4:15) and 6:45.

Our other 3D film, The True 1692, will winsomely tell the story of the Salem witch ordeal on Friday at 6:30 and Saturday-Thursday at 2:00 and 6:30.

Meryl's Streep's Oscar-nominated turn as Margaret Thatcher, The Iron Lady, returns on Friday at (5:15), 7:40 and 9:50; Saturday at (12:30), (3:00), (5:15), 7:40 and 9:50; and Sunday-Thursday at (12:30), (3:00), (5:15) and 7:40.

The nomination-laden The Descendants will play another week at CinemaSalem, screening Friday at (5:00), 7:30 and 10:00; Saturday at (12:00), (2:30), (5:00), 7:30 and 10:00; and Sunday-Thursday at (12:00), (2:30), (5:00) and 7:30.

Then it's Oscar nominations in wonderful abundance, starting with The Oscar-nominated Documentary Shorts, screening Friday at 9:20; and Saturday-Thursday at (11:45 AM).

The 2012 Oscar-nominated Animated Shorts will screen on Friday at 4:30; and Saturday-Thursday at (2:45) and (4:30).

This year's Oscar-nominated Live Action Shorts will screen Friday at 7:15; Saturday at 7:15 and 9:20; and Sunday-Thursday at 7:15.

Thanks for supporting CinemaSalem!

I hope to see you here, or there.
