Hawthorne Hotel Wedding, 1960's Style

It was April 18, 1965.  The wedding reception took place here at the Hawthorne Hotel.  This was the wedding of Ann and Marty Grover.

I'm sure you don't quite see it, but one of the "fun" things for us in looking back at old photos like this is noticing the ash tray on the table.  In fact, when Karen Cotton, our Director of Catering, talks about her first days here booking weddings, she often tells people that she used to routinely ask if they wanted ash trays set on the tables or not.
We still provide a separate table for the wedding cake, but we skirt the table for the wedding cake differently, and it is fun to see how they looked.  Quite a tailored appearance.
Champagne toasts done with "flats" instead of flutes.
This was taken in the Pickman Room on the second floor.  To this day we still use this room as a place for the wedding party to gather and take photos.  However, the decor is a bit different!

Now for "the rest of the story" which is about how we came by these photos.  Kristie Poehler, who is our Regional Director of Sales and Marketing, recently purchased a condo.  The condo association is a rather large one, and she was soon asked to serve on the activities committee.  It seems that Mrs. Grover also serves on that same committee, and when she found out where Kristie works, one thing led to another, and photos were shared.

I love how interconnected the world is, and this is just one of the ways this connected-ness manifests itself -- in the sharing of stories, and history.  Thanks go out to Mr. and Mrs. Grover for sharing their special photos.

I hope you enjoy this look back in time, at the Historic Hawthorne Hotel.
