Hawthorne Hotel's Flags of the Week ~~ August 23 through 29, 2010

We still hear the question often. What are those flags doing flying on the front of the Hawthorne Hotel?

This post is for those of you who still do not know that this is our effort to help the people who live in Salem, and visit the area, remember that we are part of the larger place called the World, and that the simple act of recognizing another country's existence through the flying of their flag can be a useful exercise in that quest for a more peaceful World.

I hope you enjoy thinking about that concept, and taking a look at our daily flag changes.

This week we will be flying:

Monday , August 23 ~~ Niger and Massachusetts
Tuesday , August 24 ~~ Nigeria and Michigan
Wednesday , August 25 ~~ Norway and Micronesia
Thursday , August 26 ~~ Oman and Minnesota
Friday , August 27 ~~ Pakistan and Mississippi
Saturday , August 28 ~~ Palau and Missouri
Sunday , August 29 ~~ Panama and Montana

Of course, if we receive any special requests, these could change, so check back here often. And if YOU want to make a special request, please call 978-825-4322 or 4444.

I hope to see you here.

  1. I live off of the Common and love the flags of the week at the Hawthorne, but I think that while Mississippians may have voted to keep a racist symbol in the left hand corner of their state flag, the Hawthorne Hotel should exercise more integrity and sensitivity before flying what is, in effect, the Confederate flag in the middle of downtown Salem. I am deeply troubled to see it in my neighborhood.
