Here is another one of Cinema Salem's delightfully chatty and friendly newsletters. I feel they are such an enjoyable read that they are worthy of space on our blog. I hope you find time to stop by the theater (which is only one block from the Hawthorne Hotel) and enjoy some of their popcorn with REAL butter, or their excellent hand-made Cinnamon-Salem sugar cookies.
BTW, if you want to subscribe to their newsletter yourself, just go to their website,
www.CinemaSalem.com and to just that. In that way you won't have to be dependent on my deciding to copy it onto our Blog!
I hope to see you in Salem!
Juli

This email is comprised of exactly one handful of tidbits for your reading pleasure, starting with Tidbit #1: If you come to see PIRATES 3 at CinemaSalem, you should be aware that there's an important scene that takes place AFTER the final credits, so don't be in a big hurry to leave quickly.
Now some of you may have already seen the movie but were unable to stay through the credits because you a) needed to sneak back to work before you're missed, b) needed to rush back to the hospital to finish up the brain surgery, or c) needed to go to the bathroom wicked bad after a three-hour movie.
You may be kicking yourself repeatedly wondering about this crucial final scene, so we're here to help. You can, of course, pay full price and see the movie again, or if you just want to see the ending, you can come in to CinemaSalem at the end of any PIRATES screening (about 2.75 hours after the announced showtime), buy ANYTHING AT ALL from the concession stand, and ask if you can help "clean the theater", then once the credits start to roll, you can go watch the final scene! Just another unique service provided by your friends at CinemaSalem.
Tidbit #2: Thanks to all of you who responded in support of CinemaSalem following last week's epic "State of the Theater" address. Several of you actually encouraged us to raise our ticket prices by a full dollar, instead of $.50. But we're hoping this half dollar increase will do the trick (as long as 25% more people come to the theater this year). The ticket and concession increases will go into effect this Friday, June 1.
Tidbit #3: The new CinemaSalem MySpace page is up and running. Check it out at http://www.myspace.com/ Cinemasalem. Feel free to add us to your friends, and check out our favorite movies list.
Tidbit # 4: Jazz-influenced acoustic guitarist and singer, Michael Kirsch, will be making a special appearance in the CinemaSalem Café this Friday night at 8:30 pm. Feel free to come just to hear Michael, or come early for the late show to catch a few tunes. There is no admission charge for this fabulous entertainer.
Tidbit #5: We're thinking of sending a postcard to residents in each of our core towns, starting with Marblehead, and we'd like to include some raves from town residents about their experience at the theater. Interested? If you're from Marblehead, reply to this email with a quotable comment, and let us know if you'd like us to use your whole name or just initials if we use your blurb. (Example comments might be: "CinemaSalem is great! -- a fun, affordable, family- oriented movie theater that makes me miss the Warwick a little bit less." T.J. -- Marblehead; or "If the choice is driving 25 minutes to Revere or 10 minutes to CinemaSalem, I'll take CinemaSalem every time." Marty Watahosovich -- Marblehead.)
Now, here are this week's showtimes. You'll notice we have two films coming in for one week only, both films people have been requesting.
GEORGIA RULE (R - 113 minutes) is a headier film than the mother-daughter-granddaughter chick flick you might be expecting. The NEW YORK TIMES writes, "Georgia Rule, directed by Garry Marshall from a script by Mark Andrus, swerves and spins, taking its predictable plot in some surprising directions", and E!ONLINE adds, "It's an honest hard look at a very messy family, with a fantastic cast. The movie threatens to lose its way -- and its audience -- but ends up right where it should by the last scene."
GEORGIA RULE will play Friday-Sunday at 2:30 and 7:00, and Monday-Thursday at 7:00 only.
A little gem of a movie, MISS POTTER (PG - 93 minutes) features Renée Zellweger, Emily Watson, and Ewan McGregor in the story of courageous artist/author/ecologist Beatrix Potter. SALON.COM notes, "The movie pulls off a neat trick, using animation to show how, when Potter is alone with her animal creations, they leap around on the page or wink at her with unapologetic cheekiness. They're alive, and they're in charge," and the ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT chimes in with "You have to love a movie in which a little white rabbit literally jumps off the page to excite a writer's imagination, or winks at her to encourage her dreams."
MISS POTTER will screen Friday and Saturday at 12:30, 5:00, and 9:30; Sunday at 12:30 and 5:00; and Monday-Thursday at 5:00.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (PG-13 - 175 minutes) opened in style last week with real, scary pirates from the Salem Pirates Museum in attendance. We've had big crowds for this fun movie, and it's broken national box office records.
PIRATES will screen Friday and Saturday at 11:00, 2:45, 6:30, and 10:00; Sunday at 11:00, 2:45 and 6:30; and Monday- Thursday at 3:45 and 7:30.
SHREK THE THIRD (PG - 93 minutes) is a hit with the USA TODAY film reviewer, who writes "The world of the fanciful fable looks particularly vibrant this time with its signature blend of realism and fantasy. It is a pleasure to watch these fairy tale folk be themselves -- yet again."
SHREK THE THIRD will play Friday and Saturday at 11:45; 2:05; 4:35; 7:05 & 9:35; Sunda at 11:45; 2:05; 4:35 & 7:05; and Monday through Thursday at 4:15 and 7:05.
Opening next Friday will be OCEAN'S 13, about which the TIMES of London writes: "This is Soderbergh's point: that fiendishly clever new gadgets can work with old-fashioned morals to brilliant effect. We forget that at our peril. This point alone is reason enough why Ocean's Thirteen is the best of Soderbergh's heists."
