Hawthorne Hotel's Namesake Statue
A tribute to Nathaniel Hawthorne
Just steps away from the Essex Street entrance to the Hawthorne Hotel is Salem's statue honoring one of its most famous sons. As part of the fund drive to raise money for the Hawthorne Hotel, the townspeople also contributed toward acquiring and bringing this statue to Salem, and installed it on the newly (at the time) renovated Hawthorne Boulevard.
If you take the time to research Hawthorne's legacy in Salem and beyond, you may wish to visit the Peabody Essex Museum's virtual exhibition located on line at www.PEM.org.
