Harry Potter Symposium Arrives in Salem
On Thursday evening October 6 The Witching Hour, "A Harry Potter Symposium", arrived in Salem in full force, in time for the Haunted Happenings Parade which kicks off the Halloween season here every year.
Yesterday, you couldn't walk anywhere downtown without running in to a lot of people in capes, witches hats, and school uniforms representing the various classes at Hogwarts. For more information, you can click on today's story in the Salem News, using this link:
For those of us who have lived in Salem for a time, it was hardly worth a second glance. We're so used to people dressing in costume here, that it just seems to be part of the normal landscape. However, that fact was brought home to us when a client who was here working on a future event with one of our catering sales managers remarked that we didn't seem to react to any of the events going on around us. She said "you act as though this is normal", and I guess we do, because it is 'normal' for us.
Today there was a quidditch tournament on Salem Common. A large crowd turned out to watch and to play in some pick-up games afterwards. I bet not many other hotel managers in the world can write these kinds of facts in a blog, and have them be reality.
. . . hmmmm. . . .
Maybe that is true, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
